System Overlord: Art, Technology, and What It Means to Be Human

June 02, 2017

With a title that intriguingly puns on the allure of innovation, the promise of domination, and the temptation to excess, “System Overlord” is a cutting-edge exhibition assembled by graphic designer and artist Andy Tran. Though some may think of advertising and graphic design as merely a means to an end, Tran, whose work as an industry professional and freelance artist spans more than a decade from Berlin to San Francisco Bay, has dedicated himself to unlocking and augmenting the artistic potential of new media. In this thrilling exhibit located at Works of San Jose, you’ll immerse yourself in the creations of six leading graphic artists: IsoPoly, Jimbo Barbu, Mars Maiers, Network Osaka, Thomas Blankschon, and Tran. Open now through June 18, this unique experience promises what art has long made possible, a foray into the depths of the human condition, through media that are specific to the technological innovation that defines San Jose and greater Bay Area in the 21st century.
